acupuncture for pain
We assess and treat a variety of pain conditions with acupuncture. During your initial intake session, we will discuss pain details including onset, duration, triggers, pain pathways, and quality of pain, (for example: is it stabbing, burning, aching, or an itching or tingling sensation). We have found that all pain is different and responds differently to treatment based on our TCM diagnosis. We will then discuss a customized treatment plan with you.
How many treatments are required?
All pain conditions are different and unique to an individual. Chronic pain may take longer to treat, while acute pain may see improvements within 6-8 treatments. If your pain is currently debilitating, we may ask to see you twice a week initially.
Typically, the sooner you can come in for acupuncture following the onset of pain, the better and more quickly we see relief. Patients who have been in chronic pain for years should expect to require more treatments to resolve it. In these cases, the body has been out of balance for a longer period of time and it may take the body longer to achieve balance. Adherence to recommendations for healing also plays an important role.
Common types of pain we treat include:
- Chronic pain
- Acute pain
- Orthopedic pain
- Nerve pain
- Cancer pain
- Facial pain, including Trigeminal Neuralgia and Burning Mouth Syndrome
